The Sandman's 2005 Team Defense Cheat Sheet

Quarterbacks | Running Backs | Wide Receivers | Tight Ends | Kickers | Team Defenses

Pre-season is almost here, and for the next few months your whole mission in life is to find an edge for your fantasy football draft. We give a lot of knowledge across this site, but these cheat sheets are the distilled essence of it all.

Hey, the freaks know that you shouldn't take someone's cheat sheet as the word of god. We know it's just an opinion, and that's why we give you five opinions from experienced and diverse viewpoints.

We rank on a straight performance scoring system, so you TD-only and TD-distance leaguers might want to take this with a grain of salt. For the rest, read on.

Sandman's Cheat Sheets:

Quarterbacks | Running Backs | Wide Receivers | Tight Ends | Kickers | Team Defenses

Rank Player Name Comments
1 Buffalo Bills

Bills defense finished in the top 7 in every fantasy category last year and their schedule isn't tough this year.

2 Baltimore Ravens

Solid overall defense but the special teams makes them rated so high.

3 New England Patriots

Belicheck is the master of creating great schemes but the loss of Romeo Crenell keeps them from being No. 1.

4 Pittsburgh Steelers

No.1 defense in the NFL last year. Tough against the run and pass.

5 Atlanta Falcons

Best home field advantage in the league. Offense lead the league in rushing the ball so the defense isn't on the field as much as other defenses.

6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Still have a solid core of players but their performance is on the decline.

7 Arizona Cardinals

Worst defense in 2003, 15th in 2004. I expect this trend to continue.

8 Carolina Panthers

Led the league in interceptions but the rest of the defense needs improvement.

9 New York Giants

Best front seven in the NFL. Improved secondary will get more interceptions.

10 New York Jets

Young core of linebackers that will only get better. Defensive Coordinator preaches turnovers.
